DIAGNOSIS: LOW-GRADE ASTROCYTOMA
DATE OF DIAGNOSIS: 2018
CURRENT STATUS: STABLE
Bettie Jo Chambers is a bubbly 15-year-old from Bennet, Nebraska. In 2018, Bettie was diagnosed with a brain tumor, a low-grade astrocytoma. Doctors believe her tumor is benign, but due to it being located in the center of the brain, Bettie and her family are opting not to biopsy it unless it begins growing again. Bettie is involved in many activities and has not let her diagnosis get her down. Currently, she visits her doctor annually and has a scan to check the tumor for growth. In addition, to her brain tumor, she also suffers from epilepsy, which has been deemed unrelated.
Shortly after Bettie was diagnosed, she wanted to pitch in and do something to help other kids that suffer from brain cancer. She decided to host a Disney-themed dance. With the support of her family and many friends and businesses in her community and surrounding communities, Bettie’s dance raised $13,000 for Team Jack to invest in childhood brain cancer research.
